  • Our Story

    THE EARLY YEARS

It seems like only yesterday that we first met, yet it’s been 22 years! It was our junior year in high school that we bonded over our wicked sense of humors and bold fashion choices, including hideous chandelier like earrings, that at the time we felt were style at its best but now cringe when we see the yearbook pics. Although we had mutual friends, our high school cliques were different, this enhanced our friendship because we lived vicariously through one another in different social settings and appreciated our alone time with one another. In our early twenties we both met the men we would later marry and call the father of our children. Our husbands have forged an equally great friendship through some great partying, golf and fatherhood.

    ANNA

In college I studied fashion marketing given my obsession with clothes but all hopes of pursing a career in the industry came to a halt when I couldn’t find a decent paying job. Most of everybody I knew who graduated were working as sales people in boutiques. Being on my own with no financial support I wasn’t going to pay off my loans, credit cards and rent working as a cashier at the GAP! Therefore being an individual of high energy, optimism and a gift for gab, I focused & established a great sales career over the next decade. Those of you who have worked in a high pressure sales job know you’re only as good as your last sale. The work culture is quite cut throat and unsympathetic. My very last employer pulled me into his office 4 weeks pregnant and told me to go home for 6 weeks because things were slow, and that he would call me when things picked up, he said, “Let your husband pay the bills for awhile”, and just like that, in an instant all my accomplishments, hard work and loyalty had been dismissed without even a thought. It was at that very moment that I decided I would never work for anyone but myself, others had reaped the reward of my blood, sweat and tears for way too long.

From a young age I’ve been inspired and sensitive to all things beautiful. I myself paint and relate to all forms of art. Throughout the years I’ve been greatly complimented for how I use my imagination to arrange and put things together, for example the designof my home and my fashion sense. In university I felt pressured to pursue a more prestigious degree than the arts, and graduated as an engineer and have been working in the industry as a project manager for over 10 years. My work environment was remote and very technical and quite frankly unbearably boring for someone of my artistic nature. However the cherry on the cake was when I returned from my maternity leave from my first pregnancy, and my job description had changed requiring me to travel for over 5 months at a time. When I tried to speak to my direct supervisor about how this was proving to be a little difficult with an infant at home, he point blank told me I should quit my job like his wife had and focus on being a better mother to my child. Was this chauvinist prick for real? That was the pivotal moment I realized that me and the engineering world were done!
